Master Pack Items

Master pack items are a way to allow ShipHawk to use a separate predefined packing configuration with dimensions and weight to represent a larger quantity of the same item.

For example, if you have an item that is commonly sold in quantities of 10, you can create a master pack item that assigns a packing configuration representing the qualities of these 10 items.

“Master Pack” item refers to the outer box that contains your goods in a larger quantity. Master Pack items can be pallets, boxes, parcels, and unpacked item types etc.

Configuring master pack items

This section provides instructions on how to create a master pack item.

To configure master pack items:

  1. Log into your ShipHawk account.

  2. Click on the Products link at the top of the dashboard. You will be redirected to the Products screen.

  3. Find a SKU you would like to create a master pack item from.

  4. Navigate to the Actions drop-down menu and select the Create New Product option.

  5. The New Product pane appears on the right side of the screen.

  6. Complete the screen:
Enter a unique SKU code for your master pack item in the SKU field. Typical naming convention includes the base SKU along with the number of items that is included in this SKU. An example would be AF-11-DUP-H-10.

Enter a unique name for your master pack in the Name field. An example would be AF-11-DUP-H 10 Pack.

Enter a description of the master pack item in the Description field. An example would be AF-11-DUP-H 10 Pack.

Enter the SKU for the item contained in the master pack in the Child SKU field.

Enter the number of items you want contained in the master pack item in the Child SKU QTY field. Then, enter a minimum number of items ordered that would qualify for ShipHawk to use the master pack item instead of the child item in the Child SKU Qty Min field.

When using a Child Sku Qty Min it is important to remember that ShipHawk does not account for the different quantity’s weight and dimensions. ShipHawk relies on the Items pane to define this appropriately.

  7. Complete the Items panel.

Enter a description oof the master pack item in the Description field. An example would be AF-11-DUP-H 10 Pack.

Enter a description of the commodity being shipped in the Commodity Description field. An example would be AF-11-DUP-H 10 Pack.

Price is not a required field. The price will be pulled from the child SKU.
Select an option from the  Item Type drop-down field. If you have enabled Smart Packing™ the suggested item type should be Unpacked.

If you selected Unpacked for your item type, the Unpacked Item Type field appears. If the item is usually packed away in a box, ShipHawk suggests we set the item as an unpacked item type  of Box. If the items are loose and Smart Packing™ handles packing the master pack item, ShipHawk suggests choosing Unpacked Item Type.

When using master pack items it is important to account for the packing dimensions. Enter the item dimensions in the Length, Width, and Height fields.

Enter the total weight of all the items in your master pack in the Weight field. Typically the user configuring the item multiplies the weight of the item by the Child Sku Qty.

Exporting Master Pack Items to .CSV

Creating multiple master pack items can become a cumbersome task when using the UI. By exporting a single master pack item to a .csv file you can use this to create a template for other products which then can be uploaded back into ShipHawk.

Exporting master pack items via the process below will export all products from ShipHawk if they were not imported via integration.

To export master pack items:

  1. Navigate to the Product screen.

  2. Click the Actions drop-down menu and select the Export Products to csv file option.
You will be redirected to the Choose an Integration for Export screen.

  3. Select the option None from the Choose an Integration drop-down field.

  4. Click the Export button to begin the export process.

  5. A message confirms the export process.

  6. Click on the Take me there now button to go to the Import/Export History screen.
You can also access the Import/Export History screen by clicking Products screen > Product Import/Export.

  7. Locate your export file and click on the name. The SKU Export Details pane appears on the right side of the screen.

  8. Click on the Download File link to download the CSV file.
