ShipHawk Guide

Setting Up Rate Markups / Markdowns

This document provides instructions for setting up rate markups and markdowns for rates returned externally, such as to Shopify, Magento, Netsuite, or externally via API (with the apply rules parameter enabled).

This does NOT include the rates returned from the Compare Carrier Rates button within  the ShipHawk web application.  Compare Carrier Rates will only return your negotiated carrier/3PL rates.

Creating a rule

ShipHawk has a rules engine that allows you to create rules that are applied to carrier ratings. These are called Rating Rules. These rules can be set to trigger based on certain criteria or apply globally to all external rate requests. Markups or markdowns on carrier rating are one of many types of rules that are supported by the ShipHawk rules engine. The following section provides detailed instructions for creating and configuring such a rule.

To create a markup/markdown rule:

  1. Log in to ShipHawk.

  2. Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  3. Click on the Rules option. You will be redirected to the Rules screen.

  4. Click the Actions drop-down menu in the top left area of the screen. New menu items appear.

  5. Click the Create New Rule option. The Create New Rule screen appears.

  6. Confirm the Rule Type is set to Rating.

  7. Enter a name for this rule. For example: 15% Rate Markup or Flat Rate Markdown.

  8. Select the Apply this rule to all rate requests and orders option from the Rule Application field.

    1. If you want to apply a markup or markdown in a specific situation or condition, select   the Only apply this rule under specific conditions option. New fields appear for related criteria.

    2. Select the criteria that you want to have for the rule, such as shipment_weight > 50.

    3. If you want to have multiple conditions for this rule, click  the Add Criteria button to  add more conditions.

  9. In the Rule Actions section, click the drop-down field and then select the markup rate by X percent or markdown rate by X percent option.

  10. Select the percentage you want the percentage to be marked up or down.

    1. The percentage is NOT a decimal: 15% markup will be entered as 15 in the field, NOT 0.15.

  11. Click the Create button to add the rule.
