The ShipHawk Dimensioner is a hand-held mobile dimensioner you can use to scan and upload the dimensions of your products in real time. By having this data in ShipHawk and NetSuite, you can fully leverage ShipHawk’s warehousing and smart packing capabilities.
What is the ShipHawk Dimensioner?
ShipHawk Dimensioner is a hand-held device that combines multiple 3D and 2D imaging sensors to rapidly gathering dimensions of items.
ShipHawk Dimensioner brings instant, cost effective mobile dimensioning to any site or warehouse location.
A warehouse associate can easily carry and use the ShipHawk Dimensioner anytime, anywhere. The dimensions are uploaded right away, in real time.
With ShipHawk Dimensioner, ShipHawk customers can rapidly scan and upload the dimensions of all their products, enabling them to leverage ShipHawk’s warehousing and smart packing capabilities.

Using the ShipHawk Dimensioner
You can use the ShipHawk Dimensioner in conjunction with the ShipHawk WMS and ShipHawk TMS.
ShipHawk WMS and TMS
To configure the ShipHawk Dimensioner with the WMS, you must complete some WMS configuration steps and then register the device using the ShipHawk TMS. (If you only have access to the WMS, please reach out to your Account Manager to move forward.) See the following sections:
ShipHawk TMS Only
To configure the ShipHawk Dimensioner with the TMS only, you must first register the device using the ShipHawk TMS.
Best Practices When Scanning
✔️ Place the item you’re scanning on a flat surface. Good backgrounds are flat, not shiny, and not black.
✔️ The flat background should be visible around all sides of the item when you scan it.
✔️ Note that transparent or shiny materials do not scan well.
✔️ Minimum object feature size: 0.5" (if less than this, a feature might not be seen or included in the item cube).
✔️ Maximum object size: 48x24x24" (as a rough rule of thumb).
Hold the device at least 15 inches above the item.

Configuring ShipHawk Dimensioner with ShipHawk WMS
In ShipHawk WMS, log in as an administrator.
Navigate to Administration > Manage Workstations and click Take Selected Action.
Select the workstation you intend to use and click Retrieve Workstation Details.
Enter your ShipHawk Dimensioner (QBOID) device code in the QBOID Device ID field.
Enter a meaningful name for your device in the QBOID Device Name field.
Click Update Current Workstation.
Navigate to Administration > Manage Lists and Settings.
Locate the rule with code qboid_enabled and set it to TRUE.
Locate the rule with code checkitemdimensionsatreceiving and set it to TRUE.
Log out of ShipHawk WMS.
Registering a ShipHawk Dimensioner device with ShipHawk TMS
Sign in to ShipHawk TMS.
On the menu bar, select ⚙️ > Settings, and in the left navigation, click ShipHawk Dimensioner.
Click + ADD DEVICE.

Scan the QR code by using your device. Aim the front of the device at the QR code and click the yellow button on the left side of the device, next to the ‘barcode’ icon:

Click YES.Next, to complete the “handshake” between the device and the ShipHawk system, use the device to measure some object (any object). Identify some object to scan, such as a box. Point the device’s camera at the object and press the Dimension Scan button:

Save and upload the scan by pressing the device’s Save/Upload button:
The device now connects to ShipHawk. In ShipHawk TMS, on the ShipHawk Dimensioner settings page, you will see the code for the device displayed on the page. The device registration is completed.
Congratulations! You can now uses the device with the ShipHawk WMS to scan the dimensions of items to have the Length, Width, and Height data for SKUs automatically included in NetSuite and ShipHawk.
Scanning Dimensions with ShipHawk WMS
You can now use the device to get the dimensions of new SKUs when you receive them in the warehouse using the ShipHawk WMS.
In the ShipHawk WMS, click Receive.
On Inventory Receipt, click on the Continue button:
Enter the Item ID / SKU:
If the item does not already have dimensions, an alert will prompt you to scan the dimensions.
Next, perform the dimension scan:
Press the large bottom center yellow button to get a “live” preview of the scan.
When the item is highlighted (framed) in yellow, press the button again to capture the dimensions. The yellow frame identifies the “minimal bounding box” (the smallest enclosing box space) for the item.
To do it over, press the trash icon button and start again.
Finally, save and upload, sending the data to NetSuite and ShipHawk:
The dimensions are uploaded to NetSuite in real time, before the next page is displayed in the ShipHawk WMS.
In the ShipHawk WMS, click the Continue button:
The dimensions will now be in NetSuite for the item:
Scanning Dimensions with ShipHawk TMS
Once a ShipHawk Dimensioner has been registered with the TMS, you can scan items directly from the TMS user interface.
On the ShipHawk TMS user interface, from the menu bar, select Products > Scan Items.
Next, you select a dimensioner from a drop-down list of the ones that have been registered, and then you can proceed to scan items with it.
From the drop-down, select a registered device:
(If you want to double-check the device’s serial code on the ShipHawk Dimensioner device itself, to make sure you have the registered device: select the gear icon ⚙️ and then select About. On the About screen, scoll down to Device Info section’s Serial field.)
Select the device:Click Next.
The screen for scanning now displays:
Note that the Item # column, the screen keeps a count of the number of the items you’re scanning during this session.
Using the ShipHawk Dimensioner, scan the SKU and then the dimensions of an item.

Upload the scan result by press the yellow upload button:The page now shows the results of the scan.
The status icons initially show to indicate the data has not yet been synced with ShipHawk and your ERP.
Note that you can edit the data if you wish to round it up or adjust it further.

A green checkmark indicates the sync is completed:Continue scanning the SKUs and then the dimensions of each item at hand using the ShipHawk Dimensioner.
Keep in mind if you leave the page and discontinue the session, you can continue scanning SKUs later by going to Products > Scan Items.
