Packing Slip Setup Guide
At ShipHawk, users have the option to change the formatting and look of their packing slips so that they work for their business. These are called packing slip templates. Packing slip templates include variables that are populated with the correct order details to make pick tickets.
This document provides instructions for creating and managing packing slip templates. ShipHawk’s packing slip templates are written in HTML. You can customize your own templates by either modifying existing templates or by starting from scratch. This involves visualizing what packing slips should look like and what they should include, and then creating the template with the right variables included.

Customizing Packing Slips
This section provides instructions on creating and editing packing slip templates.
Configuring Packing Slip Template settings
Packing slip templates are available on the Packing Slips screen, which you can find by selecting Settings > Packing Slips. Currently, there are two types of templates available: simple or advanced templates. The following section provides instructions for the configuration of both.
To configure simple packing slip templates
Log into your ShipHawk account. The ShipHawk dashboard appears.
Click on the Settings icon > Packing Slips. The Packing Slips screen appears.
Shiphawk comes with some templates built-in to save you some time when looking to build and customize your own template (these templates have the word “Default” in the title).
Custom 4x6 packing slips require professional services and cannot be customized in the application. Contact customer support for details.
To copy a template, click the green drop-down button in the row corresponding to the template you want to copy. New menu items appear.
Select the Copy option.
A newly copied template appears below the built-in template (the link is named “Copy of” the original template).
Click on the blue link to edit the details for the newly created template, as shown below:
Alternatively, if you want to start a template from scratch, click the green Create New Template button.
The New Packing Slip - Choose Editor screen appears.
Click on the Simple button. The Create New Template screen appears.
It is recommended that you at least look at the example code before making your own so that you know how packing slip templates are formatted.For simple packing slips, templates are divided into four sections: Header, Items Header, Items Body, and Footer. These four elements make up a packing slip. This includes order information as well as a table that describes the items in the following order:
The Header contains the elements that are at the top of the page and typically include the origin and destination addresses, order number, order date, and ship date.
The Items Header serves as a header to the items that are included in the order. In packing slips, there is a table that includes all of the items in the order. The Items Header labels the columns in this table. Typical column headers include Item SKU, Description, Price, and Qty.
The Items Body is essentially the format for one row in the table of items. Using the example from the Items Label, the Items Body would include the replacement fields for the various columns. So instead of having column headers of Item SKU, Description, Price, and Qty, there should be replacement fields [Sku], [Item Title], [Unit Price], and [Quantity]. In terms of HTML code, the Items Body should include a <tr> tag with each element in a row (item) being housed in a <td> tag.
The Footer includes details to be included after the items table, such as Subtotal, Shipping Cost, and a barcode.
To see what your template will look like, click the Render Sample button.
Make sure that the template name, type, and size are correct. If your template should be the default template, ensure that it is selected.
Default templates are applied to every generated packing slip in your account. The only exception is when you create a rating rule to apply a different template under specific circumstances. Selecting this flag sets the current template as the default for your account.
Default templates differ from the “default” built-in templates that are provided by ShipHawk for further customization. The built-in templates simply have the world “default”in their titles to show that they are basic system designs.Click the Save button to finish.
To configure advanced packing slip templates (recommended)
This process is similar to configuring simple packing slip templates. The main difference between the two is that advanced packing slip templates use Liquid to substitute variables with order details, which differs from using brackets in HTML. In addition, an advanced packing slip template does not have the same HTML sections that a simple packing slip template does.
Log into your ShipHawk account. The ShipHawk dashboard appears.
Click on the Settings icon > Packing Slips. The Packing Slips screen appears.
Shiphawk comes with some templates built-in, so you can copy and customize them. (These templates have the word “Default” in the title.)

It is recommended that you at least look at the example code before making your own so that you know how packing slip templates are formatted.
Advanced packing slip templates are created using Liquid, which is described here: https://shopify.github.io/liquid/basics/introduction/. To view the variables used in customizing advanced packing slip templates, click on the Show Variables toggle button.
A new window with all the variables appears below.
Important features that should be used with liquid to make a Packing Slip Template are:
Embedded For loops (for describing all items in an order)
Filters
To add your company’s logo to your advanced packing slip template, click the Upload Logo link.
A system window appears so you can select the image from your computer. The image you upload is substituted for the variable account.logo_src. For example, in the Default Advanced Letter Template, the logo is included using this HTML statement:

Uploading the logo does not automatically include it in the packing slip. The image must be referenced in the packing slip template to determine its placement on the packing slip.Click the Render Sample button to view what your packing slip looks like if it was formatted with the template.
If the template is supposed to be used by default, select the Default Template button.
When you are done editing the template, click the Save button to finish.
Print Packing Slips
After creating a packing slip template and processing an order, you can print packing slips for your orders.
Configuring packing slip printing
The following section provides instructions for configuring the print settings for your packing slip so that it prints with your labels.
Packing slips are Shipment-Level only. We do not print packing slips for each package.
To include packing slips when printing package labels
From the ShipHawk dashboard, click the Settings icon > Settings > Shipments. The Shipment Settings screen appears.
Scroll down to the Printing Settings section.
Select the Include packing slip when printing labels setting to print your packing slips at the same time as your labels. If this setting is not checked, you will have to click a separate action button during fulfillment to manually print the packing slip.
Click the Update button to finish.
Packing Slip Template printing
The following section provides instructions for printing packing slips for your orders. Printing a packing slip only works when an order has already been processed.
To print a packing slip from the Order Details screen
Log into your ShipHawk account. The ShipHawk dashboard appears.
From the top menu bar, click on the Orders link. The Orders screen appears.
To access the order details of an order, click on the Order # corresponding to the order you wish to view. The Order Details screen appears.
Click the Print Packing Slip button in the top right corner.
A message appears notifying you that the print job has been sent to your connected printer.

To print from the Order History screen
If you need to either print or reprint packing slips for a batch, you can do so from the Order History screen. The following procedures show you where to access this functionality.
Log into your ShipHawk account. The ShipHawk dashboard appears.
From the top menu bar, click Orders > Order History.
The Order History screen appears.
Select an order (or orders).
Click the Actions dropdown menu. New menu items appear.
Select the Print Selected Orders option. More menu options appear.
Click the Packing Slips option. The Order Bulk Print Status Summary screen appears.
Select either the Print PDF or Open PDF buttons depending on your needs.

Creating packing slip template rules
Currently, if a packing slip template is set as the default, it will be used on all orders to generate packing slips. If needed, rules can be configured to determine when to use a specific template instead of the default one. This is commonly used for customers who have multiple brands or ship direct to consumer on behalf of other businesses.
To create a rule for packing slip templates
Log into your ShipHawk account. The ShipHawk dashboard appears.
In the top right corner, click the Settings icon > Rules. The Rules screen appears.
Click the Actions dropdown menu. New menu items appear.
Click the + Create New Rule option. The Create New Rule screen appears.
Enter a unique, descriptive name for your new rule in the Rule Name field.
Select the Shipping Policy option from the Rule Type dropdown field.
Under the Rule Actions section, select Use a Specific Packing Slip or Use a Specific Packing Slip for Proposed Shipment from the first dropdown field.
A second field appears to the right.Select the packing slip template of your choice from the Select Packing Slip dropdown field.
If conditions need to be met, change the Rule Application choice to Only apply this rule under specific conditions. New fields appear in the Rule Criteria section.
Select a type of condition from the first dropdown field. This field dictates what criteria have to be fulfilled in order to select a different packing slip template. An example of these conditions is carrier service or unpacked item ID.
Select an operator from the second dropdown field. This field sets the relationship of the first field to the third field.
Enter the specific condition you want to be fulfilled in order to use the alternate packing slip template.
Click the Create button to finish.
