A package preset is a pre-filled packing material configuration that a user can apply to a proposed shipment. The presets allow you to set a shipment’s package type, length, width, height, value, carriers, carrier services, and more by just selecting a preset in the UI or scanning a preset barcode.

Package presets are different from packing materials because packing materials only concern the actual packing material (e.g. 12x12x12 box that weighs 0.5 pounds) while a preset can include carrier and service information. Presets are used purely to streamline assigning packing configurations to certain orders and can be assigned manually or automated through rating rules

Preset Package Settings

Add new preset

Name – Enter the name of the preset, such as Flat Rate Envelope.

Packing Type – Select the packing type from the drop-down:

  • Parcel

  • Unpacked

  • Pallet

  • Box

  • Crate

(The settings displayed next depend on which Packing Type you have selected.)

Length – Specify the length of the pallet.

Width – Specify the width of the pallet.

Height – Specify the height of the pallet.

Unit – The unit of the length, width, and height dimensions (in.).

Value – Specify a default value.

Materials Weight – Specify the weight of the packing material itself without anything packed inside (lbs.). (Only for Pallet, Box, and Crate).

Piece Type – Select the piece type (ranging from Bag to Unit). (Only for Pallet, Box, and Crate.)

Total Weight – The default total weight.

Unit – The unit of the total weight (Ibs.).

Freight Class – Select the freight class (see /wiki/spaces/SG/pages/9176243 ).

NMFC – Enter the NMFC code (see /wiki/spaces/SG/pages/9961532 ). (Not included for Parcel.)

Commodity Description – Enter a description of the commodity. (Only for Pallet, Box, and Crate.)

Click Add Dangerous Goods Details , and in the Dangerous Goods Details pop-up, select the Dangerous Goods Category (None, Lithium Batteries, Excepted Quantity).

Click +Add New Commodity

Carrier

Carrier Service

Default Preset to add another commodity to the preset.

Carrier – Select the carrier; the drop-down organizes carriers by LTL, Small Parcel, and Custom Carrier.

Carrier Service – Select the carrier’s service, if applicable.

Default Preset – Select to make this preset the default behavior.

Add Weights to items – Select to add package weight to item weight.

Click CREATE NEW PACKAGE PRESENTPRESET to create the preset you’ve defined.

Click GENERATE COMMAND BARCODES

Click GENERATE PRESET BARCODES

The listing of presets include Name, Type, L x W x H, Weight, and Content.

Available Piece Types

Select which piece types are available in the Piece Type drop-down during order fulfillment.
